A company is a business your contacts work for. Linking people to their company puts everyone you know there, every deal with them and all their conversations on one page, so whoever picks up the account sees the whole picture.
When you'd use it #
Selling to businesses
A school buys through its principal, its accountant and its admin office. Link all three to the school and track one deal against it.
Handing over an account
Give the company an owner, and the new owner reads its whole history on one page.
Create and link companies #
-
From the Companies tab
Open CRM → Companies and add one with its name. Domain, website, phone, industry, address and owner are optional. -
From a contact
In the contact's edit form, start typing in the Company field. Pick an existing company, or keep typing a new name to create it as you save. -
Read a company's page
It lists the company's contacts, its deals and a single history of every conversation, call and change across all of its people.
Avoiding duplicates #
Company names are matched without regard to capitals, so "Sunrise Clinic" and "sunrise clinic" are one company. A different spelling, such as "Sunrise Clinics", makes a second company. To tidy one up, open the duplicate, choose Merge into… and pick the company to keep. Its contacts, deals, tasks and notes move across, blank details on the kept company are filled from the duplicate, and the duplicate is deleted. A merge cannot be undone.
