A contact list is a named group of contacts. Its only real job is to be the target of a campaign, so that "message the people who bought last month" is one selection rather than a hundred checkboxes.
When you'd use it #
Recurring segments
Lapsed customers, trial users, people in one city — anything you will message more than once.
Import landing zones
Send each uploaded file into its own list, so the source of every contact stays visible.
Staged rollouts
Send to a small list first, read the delivery and reply numbers, then send to the big one.
Building a list #
-
Create the list
Press New List and give it a name that will still make sense in three months. "Diwali 2026 buyers" beats "list 3". -
Add members
Open the list's Members view and add contacts. Members can be added and removed at any time; a campaign uses the membership as it stands when it launches. -
Or import straight into it
The bulk import flow can create the list and fill it in one pass.
Where to go next #
Broadcast campaigns
Send an approved template to a contact list, schedule it, and track sent / delivered / read / failed per recipient.
Contacts
The people you reach on WhatsApp — searchable, assignable, blockable and opt-out aware.
Importing contacts
Upload a CSV or Excel file, map its columns to contact fields, and preview before anything is saved.
